BUYER BEWARE — Galaxy Construction also does business as Galaxy Restoration. This review reflects my personal experience and opinions. I initially dealt directly with Galaxy’s owner/president following damage to my home and relied in good faith on his representations and expertise. He directed me to a separate mitigation company doing business as Flood Doctor/Restoration Doctor. Based on my interactions with Galaxy, I understood that company to be functioning as Galaxy’s mitigation subcontractor. I later learned that I had actually entered a separate contract directly with the mitigation company. That distinction became important when the mitigation billing became disputed. The first mitigation invoice was $11,773.16, later increased to $13,643.16, and was subsequently corrected to $12,363.36 after billing issues were challenged. My insurance company valued the mitigation substantially lower. For complete accuracy, that dispute was ultimately resolved through credits and adjustments, resulting in an agreed final payment of $8,143.16 to the mitigation company with a zero balance. My concern with Galaxy is the gray zone surrounding its role in this arrangement. Galaxy’s involvement went beyond simply providing a referral. Its owner performed supervisory functions associated with the project, and Galaxy required me to pay it a $2,500 deposit. That deposit was subsequently credited dollar-for-dollar toward the separate mitigation company’s invoice. I am not alleging that this transfer was improper; the credit ultimately reduced what I owed. My concern is transparency. As a consumer, I believe I should have clearly understood from the beginning that I was dealing with separate companies and separate contractual relationships, what role Galaxy would continue to perform, and how money paid to Galaxy could ultimately be applied to another company’s account. That is the gray zone I wish I had understood beforehand: rely on one restoration contractor → get directed to another company you understand to be its subcontractor → discover you actually contracted independently with that company → original contractor remains involved in the project and accepts your deposit → deposit is ultimately applied to the other company’s invoice. Consumers should not rely on informal understandings about who is working for whom. Before doing business with Galaxy Construction/Galaxy Restoration, get the relationships in writing. Ask whether any recommended mitigation company is actually Galaxy’s subcontractor or an independent contractor. Understand exactly what Galaxy is supervising, which company you are contracting with, who will bill you, and where any deposit you pay can ultimately be applied. Have your insurance company review the contracts before work begins. My criticism is about transparency and the process I experienced—not an allegation that the $2,500 credit itself was improper.

From start to finish GBC provided excellent service. Alan (GBC Ashburn) helped us design two efficient bathrooms. He was also very helpful when selecting the materials and provided a competitive price. Ramon Pineda served as Project Manager and did an excellent job communicating with us daily and scheduling deliveries, permits and work activities. He visited the job site frequently and was knowledgeable with all activities and could answer all of our trade questions. Alvaro Fernandez, the onsite Forman, provided excellent leadership and guidance to all onsite workers. He and the onsite workers provided superior craftsmanship with attention to detail. Everyone was respectful, easy to work with and focused on providing top customer satisfaction. We would definitely recommend and use GBC again for all bathroom remodeling needs.

GBC just finished remodeling our kitchen. My wife and I could not be happier with the renovation from start to finish. Alan was extremely helpful in consulting on the design of the cabinets, tiles and countertop. Ramon, the project manager, was excellent in keeping us informed about the job’s progress as well as addressing any issues along the way. My husband and I just finished a complete renovation of our master bathroom, and I want to commend everyone at GBC for a job well done! After meeting with several other contractors, it didn’t take us long to decide that GBC was the company we wanted to work with. At our first meeting with Alan, we were impressed with his patience and professionalism. He met with us several times and never pressured us into making a decision or accepting a generic suggestion based on price, or what others were doing, but instead gently guided us while learning what was important to us. Ramon’s expertise and kindness were much appreciated during all the coordination, and if he wasn’t here, he was always reachable. He and Alan worked together to address issues as they arose. There was never any finger pointing amongst them, nor at me when the error was mine. The in-house team of Alvaro, Jose and Lewis was a group who worked really well together and demonstrated exceptional knowledge and craftsmanship. Other than at lunchtime, they never stopped working from beginning of the day until it was time to clean up. Alvaro ranks up there as one of the most skilled, hardest working people, juggling tasks and getting them all done, in all my years working with contractors. Ariel and Sonja did a beautiful job on the tile, each with precision. Aleyna is an effective and personable admin person, with a keen eye for detail and also helped us with our selections. She will continue to be a valuable asset as she grows with the business. Lastly, the contractors used for specialty items (Modern Glass and Craft Countertops) did beautiful and professional work, and I would not hesitate to use either of them in the future. We love our new bathroom and we have already recommended GBC to friends, without hesitation.

Having been in the remodeling business for over 35 years, I have a very discerning eye for detail. Thanks to Deck Envy, we have the most gorgeous deck! We initially met with many contractors but chose Deck Envy for multiple reasons. We really liked that they were a small business and thus provided a very personalized approach to the entire project. The communication was great. Johnny and Ricardo explained every step of the process and were very patient with our questions. We had a specific vision of what we wanted – and they went above and beyond our expectations. The crew that came every day did an amazing job. The attention to detail, craftsmanship and resulting quality of our finished deck is absolutely stunning. The price was also very reasonable. One other thing to note – during the project they had to dig up our stone patio under the deck to replace one of the deck support beams. After the deck was done, they sent another contractor to repair the patio. You would NEVER know that they ever dug a hole there! The patio looks perfect! Johnny, Ricardo, Johnathon, and the installation crew from Deck Envy were awesome. Johnny came out on a Saturday evening and took the time with my wife and I to go over all of our different options. His pricing beat every other quote we had gotten from several places. After we signed the contract, Johnny and Ricardo were very responsive to our request for progress updates on permitting. Once the permits were approved, the install team knocked our deck out in less than a week. They were very profession, cleaning up at the end of every workday! Their work is top notch and every detail was taken into account to ensure our deck is perfect. They were very kind in dealing with our 9 month old puppy who wanted them to stop building to play. I can’t say enough about how spectacular their workmanship is. If you are looking for someone to build you the deck of your dreams, look no further. Met with Mike. Told him exactly what I needed and he followed through. They showed up on the schedule date and time as promised. It was a quick and clean installation. Lasted about half the day. I could not be more pleased with my experience with MC Fence Fredericksburg. Brenden was my rep, and Elias was my installer. Brendon showed up on time and gave me a very fair price. Elias and his team installed my fence about a week later and got everything done on a single day. He left no messes. In my early research I came upon some negative reviews, but they were for a company with a similar name. MC Fence Fredericksburg is a great outfit that set me up with a beautiful new wooden fence. We don’t usually leave negative reviews, but our experience with our former landlord and real estate agent, Jin Wickwire, unfortunately ended on a very disappointing note. While the home-buying process itself was smooth, our move-out experience was the complete opposite. As a family with young children, we were repeatedly questioned and made to feel uncomfortable over normal wear and tear……things like minor drywall nicks that are expected in any home with kids. These were already being addressed on our end with a contractor, as we had communicated. Despite agreeing to cover repairs and forfeit a $3,000 deposit, we were met with unnecessary comments and a level of aggression that felt unprofessional and unwarranted. It was especially disappointing given that we chose to work with her over many other options, expecting a level of trust and respect in return. We believe in accountability and were fully willing to take care of any legitimate damages….but respect and professionalism should go both ways. Based on this experience, we would not recommend doing business with Jin.

Sean was great. Incredibly responsive and accommodating to make sure the work gets done to your satisfaction. He even took care of a few small side things to help make sure the work got done in a very timely manner. After meeting with a few vendors, their pricing was very reasonable — and Sean’s responsiveness and willingness to get the job done put them over the top. Lastly, the crew that did the concrete work was very efficient. I would 100% recommend them if you are looking for concrete and hardscaping work.

Loudoun Granite did a great job with our granite countertops for our kitchen remodel! The price was very competitive and the turnaround time was a matter of days from contract to installation. Kaan was very patient and took us to the supplier’s warehouse to see all the options and explained the materials and process in detail. Great company to work with and everything went so smoothly, they really know the industry well.

During the pandemic they made themselves available and more than impressed me with their respect for your time and space. We were rushing to get the kitchen remodeled so we could finalize the refinance and Loudoun Granite made it happen. With final measurements taken and a 24hr turn around time due to a cancelation my kitchen was completed 5 days earlier than expected for the appraiser. An excellent job on replacing our old fireplace (space heater). Originally a green granite to a beautiful white quartz. Notice the front plate is a single piece without seams. These guys were professional and with reasonable with prices. Even though the wooden frame was poorly designed/crafted (by the original owner), they were still able to make the quartz fit. They even took extra time to help us realign the front quartz to better match the wooden frame. We love it, and we highly recommend you go with their services.

I cannot speak highly enough about the work that was done for us by Loudoun Granite. Mustafa is a sheer delight. My husband and I have been wanting to replace our old countertops for years but we couldn’t find exactly what we wanted within our budget. When Mustafa came to our house to measure the area to be replaced, he explained the process in detail, made suggestions and gave us a very reasonable estimate. We then went to his store where he explained the pros and cons of the various materials. Having made our choice, Mustafa’s crew arrived this morning. Their professionalism craftsmanship and efficiency were exemplary! I can’t believe they did the job in one day! Our beautiful new countertops are beyond my expectations! I have no hesitation in recommending Loudoun Granite and Marble. I promise you won’t be disappointed. Number one in quality, professionalism and value!

Mine was a 3-yr long project. Nova Stone at Belmont, fulfilled all of my stone requirements. Each and every customer representative has been very helpful and knowledgeable. I especially engaged with Ximena and Alexi. She was always prompt with texting, sending attachments of sample stones, explaining about the difference between the varieties available and educating on what stone to be used for which area of the house; fireplace, patio, pathway or ramps. I bought over 50 palettes of stone/pavers. During my multiple visits, each one has been very patient, and absolutely professional. They never make you feel “Oh there’s she again”. In fact, I was running late on my stones and the earliest delivery from New Jersey was 7-10 days; Ximena worked diligently and ensured it was delivered within three days. I would highly recommend Nova Stone especially for Northern Virginia; it’s easy access, with a plethora of choices for your stone needs, right in your backyard.

MAC Design + Build created something truly special for our family. Derek had a vision for transforming our backyard into a space that felt peaceful, beautiful, and connected to our home — and MAC brought that vision to life in the most incredible way. From the very beginning, their communication was excellent. Every step felt clear, supported, and genuinely cared for. For a project of this size, that level of communication made all the difference. The finished backyard oasis — the deck, patio, and pool — has become my absolute favorite part of our home. Our home was featured on the Reston Home tour where MACs great work received well earned accolades. I’ve consulted with Justin subsequently about renovations for another home and just yesterday had him and the MAC team back at our Reston home as we want to get a look at real possibilities for adding space. We look forward to working with them again!

My parents basement was not finished. My Dad had used the unfinished part as a train room where he had the most elaborate model train setup! When I could no longer afford the rent for my townhouse, they offered to finish the basement for me to move into. Enter Derek from MAC design+build! Derek met with me and my parents and helped us figure out the best way to get the basement finished for me in a very short time frame! From our first meeting with Derek to the design meeting and the project managers, everyone kept us informed about the progress and any issues. My new large living space is amazing! The drywall, trim and painting was done so precisely and beautifully that I still haven’t hung anything on the walls because I don’t want to mess them up! My parents and I did not stress at all during the renovation process since we knew the MAC team had everything covered!

I’m one of the home owner of South 620 community located in Aldie, Virginia built by Vanmetre. My experience with the Van Metre warranty team has been extremely disappointing, especially with my home still under the one year warranty. When I reported the siding distortion, the team gave a contradictory explanation that clearly avoided responsibility. They blamed “external environmental conditions” while also admitting the issue was caused by sunlight reflecting off a builder installed window from a neighboring property. Instead of owning the problem, they tried to classify their own installation as an outside factor. Their leadership even suggested that I should pay to install anti-reflective screens on a neighboring property window and then hire a third party to fix the siding distortion myself. This response shows a complete lack of accountability and customer support. It’s obvious the warranty team is more focused on escaping responsibility than honoring the warranty they promise. In my case, the warranty team’s response was not as helpful or accountable as I expected, and future buyers should be aware of this possibility.

Before buying a home, please make sure to check noise from your own future garage AND the adjoining garage. I bought a home last summer and have not known peace because of constant noise when my neighbors garage is open. I work from home doing televisits and have had to get an office in one loudon. I reported the issue and the warranty manager cane and told me while they are aware that the garages make noise in a way that they shouldn’t they don’t fix it unless a person reports the problem. Essentially they are okay leaving people with malfunctioning garages.

My fiance and I purchased a Van Metre home in Winchester and we love it. The house itself is well designed and well constructed. The buying process was smooth and as easy as it could be. The customer care team is very helpful. (Shirley is a so nice!) We have had a few issues that were resolved. -When we first moved in our smart home package was not setup, but they quickly had the subcontractor come out to get that fixed. -One of our showers was not getting hot water, they had a plumber come out to fix it. -Finally, there was a large tree that had died right behind the property before we took ownership, they had some guys come to take it down for us. I would absolutely recommend buying a Van Metre home since in my experience you are a valued customer before and after the sale.

I was informed that every few months after settlement, there would be a walk through/eval and issues would be resolved. I received a calendar invite for my one year Goose Creek – Lot 49 – LAST NAME – 11 Month Service Inspection Friday, March 28⋅9:00 – 10:00am. The day came and no one showed up or reached out. There after, I reached out to clarify if my walk through would be closer to my June 1, 2024 settlement date. Up to this moment no one has responded or scheduled my one year warrant eval. But the warranty manager had the audacity to hop on a call with me weeks ago to talk about “leadership”, how “staff our trained” and other nonsense. If you are going to talk, make sure to work with diligence and integrity otherwise your leadership is just by title and name.

We built a single family home in Birchwood 55 plus community. The construction manager was the worst to work with. He promised any issues we had in the house would be addressed after completion. The bigger things were supposed to be addressed at the 2 month mark and then tying up any loose ends at the 11 month inspection. That has not been the case! We had so many things wrong with the house we are still waiting to get things taken care of 15 months later. We have gaps in the miters of what was supposed to be upgraded aristocraft cabinets. They still seem to be having problems finding doors that fit together properly. They had to come in and re-spackle the ceilings and walls because you could see the mud lines or patch work. They painted over particles of dust from sanding which left the walls with rough surfaces. It took 4 days of sanding and painting. It was really a renovation! We had cracked tiles in the bathroom that needed replacing. And the biggest thing is we had a very bad smell in the basement. From the beginning the foundation had 2 cracks that needed to be addressed. They had to fix one twice. They eventually added some vents but it didn’t fix the problem. Then the white mold started growing on the wood, furnace and hot water heater. They sent someone to run air scrubber and clean mold and to test what type of mold. We were supposed to get results in 7-10 days that was 3 months ago we were just told in email that it was a common mold ( like on cheese) as though it’s no big deal. Everything moves very slowly with them and I mean slowly! As though you have nothing else to handle in your life. On top of that the workmanship was subpar. Painting, woodworking, caulking very sloppy. Communication is the most frustrating thing. Our kitchen faucet has broken 3 times and they keep replacing it with the same one. I was just told they would replace with a different one if we paid the difference, What! We paid almost 900,000.00 for a house and they can’t replace a faucet that keeps breaking from the beginning. Every riser on our steps needed respackled and repainted. They don’t always let you know if something is scheduled people just show up to fix something and we are totally unaware they were coming. They also had to dig up the side of the house and address a drainage issue. It a never ending battle. They say they will stick with you and they have but a a very slow pace. And somethings aren’t going to be resolved as they should be. Customer Care is unreliable and sometimes unresponsive. The experience with Van Metre has been long and stressful. We have not been able to enjoy our new home like we should. I wouldn’t do it again! At all!
