Losing our 16.5-year-old Westie, Leo, was immensely difficult, but the team at In Memoriam treated us with extraordinary compassion, patience, and kindness during a painful time. I want to extend a special thank you to Christina, who guided us through the entire process. She could not have been more thoughtful, understanding, or supportive. The memorials they created in honor of Leo were beautiful, deeply personal, and truly special to our family. We are so grateful for their exceptional care and cannot recommend them highly enough.

I have worked in the veterinary field for over a decade and have grown familiar with several different pet cremation services over the years. I was always so blown away by the care and dignity that In Memoriam showed to the pets entrusted to them. I have known for years that, no matter where my career or life took me, this was the company I wanted handling my beloved pets. I reached out to In Memoriam months ago when my dog was diagnosed with lymphoma. Scott called me personally to go over all the details and options. He also checked in periodically to see how my dog was doing, at one point even asking if my dog was able to enjoy the snow storm that came through. When the time came to say goodbye, they fit me in after hours on a weekend and Harry, who was equally as wonderful as Scott, asked if I wanted to be present for the whole process. That transparency alone speaks for itself. I can see this has been said in other reviews, but In Memoriam truly made one of the worst days of my life a little more bearable. I cannot thank them enough for the relief and reassurance I felt knowing my pet was safe in their care, and that he is now back home safe with me.

Everyone was so kind and made it all as easy as it possibly could be. In March 2026, our Dog Lana Lang died and we brought her here where they treated us and her with the highest respect. When we were there, we found out they also cremated my horse last, April, Sonny Madison.I highly recommend them. They made a heartbreaking experience a little bit easier

In Memoriam Pet Services was very caring about my dog’s passing and were very respectful and accepting of my requests. The terra-cotta pawprint was perfect and the urn I got with his photo and name plate was such a beautiful tribute to him. They even set aside a small amount of ashes so that maybe I can get a necklace made with it or something.

I cannot say enough good things about this company. We had to euthanize my heart horse and they were there within and hour and a half. It was the most respectful, gentle and honorable process I could imagine- and that’s for a 1,300 lb horse. Every contact I had with the company was sensitive, and deeply honoring of the power of the loss. His ashes were hand delivered to me at our home 4 days later. I hope you never have need of this service – but if you do, know that you and your beloved companion will be well cared for. Our vet recommended them and she said that every experience she has had has been wonderful and that why she trust them with such a sacred responsibility.

Dr. Lauren came to our home when we sent out an urgent request when everything was booked up. This was our first at home euthanasia experience, and my husband's first true loss of a beloved pet. Lauren was calm, comforting, and kind. She explained everything clearly and gently. She was sensitive to where my husband and I each were emotionally, and most importantly, she was very gentle with our sweet boy, a 12 year old Siberian cat named Buddy, declining dramatically from kidney disease. He went quickly and peacefully. It was a huge comfort and relief. He had been suffering. Lauren made sure we were okay before she left, and even followed up later in the day, especially confirming whether or not we wanted some of his fur included with our private cremation (we had said no, but decided we did – so glad she asked again). We would recommend CodaPets, and especially Dr. Lauren, to anyone who wanted an at-home experience. I would seek her out specifically again.

Saying goodbye to my best friend was the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make, but choosing in home euthanasia with Dr. Lauren Silvesti was the greatest comfort during such a difficult time. From the very beginning—starting with her supportive text messages days before our appointment—Dr. Lauren made the entire process incredibly gentle and empathetic. When she entered our home, she brought an immediate sense of peace and compassion, doing everything she could to make my companion feel safe and comfortable. She walked us through every single step, checking in gently before moving forward. My family and I are deeply grateful to have had her in our home that day. For anyone facing this for the first time: being there with your companion until the very end is a beautiful final gift we can offer them, in return for the lifetime of unconditional love they gave to us.

This was an incredibly tough day for my wife and I. After our one-eyed wonder dog, Maggie, who "rescued us" 11 years ago was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease, spent 2 days in the hospital and sent home with us with no hope for improvement, we knew we had to allow her to transition in her safe place surrounded by her "people". We made the decision the bring in CodaPet sooner than later as she was already weak and confused and we didn't want to wait until she was bedbound. We were connected with Dr. Megan Loman who reached out the night before. I told her Maggie hated needles and we wanted to make sure this was as painless as possible. Dr. Loman was incredible. In fact when she arrived and introduced herself to Maggie, it was the first time in days Maggie wagged her tail. Dr. Loman gave Maggie treats and sedated her with a liquid, along with the treats, which put Maggie under, never feeling a thing after that. Most importantly, during this entire ordeal, Dr. Loman (now just Megan to us), gave us all the space we needed to say our final goodbyes. I can't give a strong enough endorsement to Megan for her professionalism and compassion. If the other CodaPet Vets are as good as she is, then the entire organization should get 5 stars as well. Don't know how she does this kind of work, but my wife and I thank God she does. * a friend sent the "heavenly" photo of Maggie, where there, she has both eyes.

With tremendous heartache and anguish, on Thursday, June 26th, I had to say goodbye to my best friend and soul mate Kaya Sletzinger. She was a 10 year 3 month old Leonberger, who had been struggling with some health issues, most notably arthritis. If you have been through this before as a dog owner, then you know how burdensome it is. If you are a more recent dog owner, and haven’t been through this experience, it may seem unfathomable. I have been around dogs for all of my life, and I know that they’re absolutely the best things in this world. The only downside is that they don’t live long enough. Unfortunately I have experienced having to go to the veterinary hospital to put my best friend to sleep, but the much better option, is having a doctor come to your house, and doing this procedure at home. This method is called in-home pet euthanasia. I have chosen this recourse when I put my awesome Leonberger Nadja to sleep in 2013, I Love You Nadja! And just a little over a week ago, when I truly believe that The Kaya Baby and myself came to an understanding, and knew what had to be done, I called CodaPet, who put me in touch with Dr. Lauren Silvesti. Everyone who I talked with at CodaPet were so kind, respectful, and professional and my words cannot express how highly I exalt Dr. Lauren Silvesti. From our very first interaction on Wednesday morning, she was compassionate, kind, and accessible. Dr. Lauren Silvesti was willing to answer any questions that I had throughout the day, and whenever I tried to get in touch with her, she was available. Kaya was such an amazing girl who had vastly intense energy. She could be stubborn and mischievous and I loved her for it. Principally though, Kaya was loving and sensitive. She could not tolerate any tension or drama, so I did my best to make sure that she wouldn’t have to. If I had decided to take Kaya to a veterinary hospital to allow her to pass on, then there would have been a lot of added stress for her. I would never allow that to happen. Kaya was a very family oriented girl, so the only option for both of us, was to do this procedure at home. Kaya passed away in my arms while I was hugging her and talking to her. My mom and dad were also there, as well as my sister and brother in-law, along with their two dogs Luney and Ruby. They are both Kaya’s sisters, and everyone who was there loved Kaya so much. I was with my Kaya girl for the whole time, and I sincerely believe that she was at peace. Having to make the decision "when is the right time?" And having to say goodbye to all of my dogs, is by far one of the hardest things that I will have to go through in my life. Dr. Lauren Silvesti made this experience as manageable as possible for all of us. She was so professional, and from beginning to end, the procedure was conducted smoothly, effectively, and tenderly. Thank You Dr. Silvesti! I believe it meant the world to Kaya to have so many people who loved her, there with her, when she needed it most. The Kaya Baby was so full of love, and she loved everybody who was there with her also. RIP Baby Girl and Best Wishes on your next adventure! Also to Baxter, Ruffo, Mila, Dreyfus, and Nadja, I miss you guys and I love you! If you happen to be reading this review and you are going through this agonizing time of saying goodbye to your dog. I wanted to say I’m sorry and I’m sending my heartfelt condolences. I genuinely recommend CodaPet out of Ashburn, Virginia, and Dr. Lauren Silvesti, who I will forever consider a dear friend. They specialize at in-home pet euthanasia, which is a truly valuable service. If there is an option to take this course of action when the time is right, in my opinion it is the best way to go, for the wellbeing of your pet. I’m sending everyone my love and please cherish your time with your pets. Time flies by so fast and life is too short. Sincerely and Respectfully, Jussi Sletzinger

This is going to be a long review. For those wishing to skip ahead, I have absolutely no regrets about using CodaPet for in-home euthanasia. Throughout the process, there was great communication, empathy, and professionalism. For those wanting to hear more about my experience, keep reading. My 16-year-old dachshund, Fudge, was honestly the light of my life and has been since I got him as an eight week old puppy. I found out he was sick about a month ago, and despite all of the best veterinary care, his condition started deteriorating on November 7. As this was happening, I was lucky enough to have time to do some research regarding at-home vs in-office euthanasia. Initially, I was fairly ambivalent about where it occurred because I thought the worst thing was already happening and it couldn’t possibly be a good ending either way. But after having gone through it, I can’t imagine doing it in a vet office (which is not to shame veterinary clinics in anyway— I am sure that they do their utmost to provide the best possible end of life care in the setting available to them). I made what I had hoped was just a preemptive appointment that I might not need to use for November 11. This was the first available appointment for advance scheduling in my area but CodaPet did reach out to let me know that if Fudge’s condition became serious before our appointment, I could call and they would try to accommodate as soon as possible if the need arose (luckily this wasn’t the case). However, it became clear over the next couple of days that the appointment I had made would be entirely necessary. CodaPet confirmed the appointment details and Dr. Lowman reached out regarding logistics and what to expect. The communications process was excellent from start to finish. She arrived promptly for our appointment time. Dr. Lowman was wonderful. Her professionalism and empathy were so greatly appreciated. This was one of the hardest moments of my life, and I couldn’t have asked for a better veterinarian to take care of him one last time. She reconfirmed all of our details and my wishes regarding aftercare. She was so patient, and once again explained the sedation and euthanasia process. She checked on Fudge throughout and made sure he felt nothing. And when the time came, the ending couldn’t have been more gentle for my boy. Fudge was laying on my chest with his head nuzzled into my neck just like he used to when he wasn’t sick. He passed in my arms without any pain and I held him as he crossed the rainbow bridge. Afterwards, Dr. Lowman waited patiently while I said goodbye to him one last time. Doing this in the privacy of my own home, in a place (my couch) where my dog was comfortable, and without feeling like I had to hide my emotions in a more public setting was such a RELIEF. Before departing, Dr. Lowman made an ink nose print and paw print for me to keep. She was so gentle with him while loading him into her car. She even had a bed for him so it felt like he was being transported the same way as if he were still alive. She explained the aftercare process thoroughly, including when I could expect to hear back from the crematorium so that I wouldn’t be wondering where he was or when I could retrieve him. I just picked him up today. As if they hadn’t already done enough for me, the aftercare facility CodaPet partners with (In Memoriam Pet Services) was also absolutely lovely. When I picked him up, it was a really nice office with lovely staff. They also did an amazing job with aftercare and took the most beautiful clay paw print I could have ever expected. If you ever find yourself owning a pet and in a similar situation, I can’t recommend at-home euthanasia highly enough. CodaPet and Dr. Lowman were able to provide a peaceful ending that I couldn’t have even imagined was possible while saying goodbye to Fudge. If I could give this experience 10 stars, I absolutely would. Many thanks to CodaPet, Dr. Megan Lowman, and In Memoriam Pet Services.

I have a dog with allergies, chronic skin infections, and IBD. Before I started with Wholistic Paws, we were at an emergency vet every 1-2 months. He’s only been once in the last 14 months. Such a huge improvement! We just added supplements and started using a green tea/apple cider vinegar mixture topically. It’s truly been an amazing transformation. The doctors and staff are so kind too. Well worth giving a try if you’re struggling with chronic issues!

Dr. Powell is amazing with our Bella and has a very calm way of dealing with patients and pets. Our Bella enjoys going to Wholistic Paws for her weekly treatments! For her, it’s probably the peanut butter, but for us, it’s wonderful to see her movement incrementally getting better as she continues her treatments. Highly recommended!

Wholestic Paws was a true blessing for our family during the last year of our beloved dog Rio's life. Rio had a neurological condition that affected his comfort, but the treatment provided at Wholestic Paws made a remarkable difference in his quality of life. Through acupuncture and muscle-strengthening exercises, they helped manage his condition exceptionally well. After each treatment, Rio genuinely looked relaxed, comfortable, and at ease. Seeing him find relief and enjoy more good days meant the world to us. More than anything else, what sets Wholestic Paws apart is the compassion of the people who work there. They truly care—not just about treating the condition, but about the well-being of the pets and the families who love them. They treated Rio with kindness and patience, every step of the way. We are incredibly grateful for the comfort, care, and support that Wholestic Paws provided. They gave Rio a better quality of life, and for that, we will always be thankful.

We first met Dr. Erwin to help treat my 14yo dog Jessie's severe arthritis. She was wonderful with Jessie and so knowledgeable. She would share her process and procedure every step of the way, always asking me if I had questions or offering recommendations when she could see I was concerned. She is kind, sweet, calm, thoughtful and has just an overall awesome bedside manner. She is beyond wise and provides educational information with such ease, she is a great teacher. We had so many wonderful conversations during Jessie's treatments – like talking to a friend who really cares. Jessie eventually and unfortunately lost the ability to walk properly and was in pain. Again, I called Dr. Erwin, but sadly, it was to help Jessie through her last journey. Our hearts are broken, losing a fur baby and especially a "heart dog" is never easy. She made that time so peaceful, so gentle and treated us and more importantly Jessie like family… with great dignity and respect. She let us take our time, asking to hear stories about Jess. We laughed, we cried and then she helped shepherd Jessie home. Dr. Erwin, our family is forever grateful for the love, comfort and peace you provided us during this difficult time. Thank you for being an amazing Veterinarian and a wonderful person!

Wholistic Paws has been simply wonderful! My torti, Knack, first started seeing Dr. Erwin for a persistent limp. After a couple laser therapy and acupuncture sessions she was back to her normal spunky self. Even playing with her favorite stuffed pumpkin! Dr. Erwin always takes her time and makes sure that each visit is comfortable for both animal and human. Knack thoroughly enjoys each session. Either rolling around making biscuits or sitting in the content loaf position when it's time for the acupuncture needles. I just can't say enough wonderful things about this practice!! They are amazing in every sense of the word.

Very respectful and the best prices and options we could find in northern Virginia. They allowed us to spend time with our dog in a private room before taking him to be cremated. We didn't purchase an urn. Even so, they placed the sealed plastic bag of ashes in a velvet bag with a drawstring which was very thoughtful. Thank you

Very disappointed in this company, or atleast their answering service after hours. My dog passed at home in the evening. When I called they basically said put my beloved pet in a garbage bag OR turn the AC down in the house and come at 9am. A realistic answer, sure, but absolutely lacking compassion when I just had to process the trauma of my dog's passing and final moments, now turning quickly into logisitics and making calls. Then sent a text message with "helpful information" that when you click the link it said "error: not found". I ended up going to a competitor willing to take my beloved dog after hours and they were nothing but compassionate.

Frequently asked questions about pet crematoriums in Ashburn

What is pet cremation and how does it work?

Pet cremation is a process where a pet's body is reduced to its basic chemical components by applying heat. This process is performed in a specialized furnace called a cremator, typically involving high temperatures and controlled airflow to ensure thorough and dignified disposition.

How much does pet cremation cost?

The cost of pet cremation in Ashburn can vary widely depending on several factors, including the size of your pet, the type of cremation chosen (individual or communal), and whether you opt for additional services like urns or memorial items. Prices generally range from a few hundred dollars upwards, with individual cremations typically costing more than communal ones.

What are the different types of pet cremation?

The primary types of pet cremation are individual and communal. Individual cremation ensures that only your pet's ashes are returned to you, often in a chosen urn, while communal cremation involves cremating multiple pets together, and ashes are typically not returned.

How long does pet cremation take?

The cremation process itself typically takes a few hours, usually between 2 to 4 hours, depending on the size and weight of the pet. However, the entire service, including preparation, the cremation, and the cooling of the remains, can extend over a longer period, often requiring at least half a day or more.
