This review is for the vet services. We had a wonderful experience. Booking online for our dog’s spay procedure was very easy and quick. The price was great, too. Our dog is healing wonderfully. She never licked the site, and she acted normally the next day! We’re very happy with this experience.
I’ve had the privilege of fostering close to 10 puppies through Wolf Trap Animal Rescue, and I can confidently say they are a first-class organization. From the moment each puppy arrives, it’s clear how much care and effort WTAR puts into their well-being. The support they provide to fosters is incredible, ensuring that every puppy gets the best possible start before finding their forever home. Nine years ago, I adopted one of my own fosters, and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. WTAR doesn’t just save dogs—they change lives, both for the animals and the people who welcome them. Their dedication, organization, and passion for rescue are unmatched. If you’re looking to foster, adopt, or support a truly caring rescue, I can’t recommend Wolf Trap Animal Rescue enough!
First of all, I want to say that Wolf Trap Animal Rescue is the best place to adopt an animal. I was blown away by the experience. My cat recently died when he was 18 years old and I was devastated. I adopted him when he was one years old through PetSmart during the financial crisis of 2009. He was a Turkish Van cat. So, about three weeks later, I really started missing having a cat again. There was such a void in my life when I would come from work and get up in the morning, you know? So, one day my daughter started searching on line and she found Wolf Trap. We were scrolling through the available kitties and there he was. An adorable four month old kitty who also happened to be a Turkish Van. We couldn't believe it. The thing about Turkish Vans is that they're extremely smart, and have amazing personalities. I was obsessed. I must have driven all those great people at Wolf Trap absolutely crazy that week. They also work in partnership with PetSmart for adoption days usually on Saturdays, so check PetSmart's calendar for events. The really important thing I want to say is I was so impressed with his medical records. (We renamed him Mango by the way.) Mango was covered for everything and they gave me copies of all the paperwork, including a rabies tag. I probably saved a lot of money for everything they did. You are given a folder with all the information when you adopt your pet. They also called me Saturday morning to give me a head's up they were there. Love you all at Wolf Trap Animal Rescue. We couldn't be happier. Thank you. P.S. The price for adoption was $225 but as they explained it, they want to be sure you are serious about the animal you want to adopt, and I get that. Besides the medical costs alone would have amounted to way more than that out of your own pocket. P.P.S. I would like to add that he is not a PURE Turkish Van but a Turkish Van domestic shorthair mix.
I honestly had a very upsetting experience with this rescue, and I wish things had gone differently. I spent eight months with the stray cat I gave to them—feeding him every day, earning his trust, and building a real bond. He knew me, he was comfortable with me, and in many ways he already felt like my own cat. Looking back, giving him to this rescue was a mistake that has weighed heavily on me. After I gave him away, the regret hit me almost immediately. I reached out to everyone I could, explaining how emotionally attached I was and how depressed I felt about my decision. I wasn’t expecting special treatment, just some compassion or understanding. Instead, the only response I received was that I needed to "fill out an application and pay the $25 fee." That was it. No conversation, no real support, no acknowledgment of the situation or how much this was affecting me. Before I even had a chance to try to bring him back home, he was already adopted out to someone else. That was heartbreaking, and it made the whole experience feel cold and dismissive. It genuinely felt like my emotions didn’t matter. I’m not writing this to attack anyone, but to share my honest experience. I left feeling unheard, ignored, and deeply hurt. I personally wouldn’t recommend this rescue to anyone who is hoping for empathy or more thoughtful communication during emotional situations. In my experience, that compassion just wasn’t there.
The adoption process is so frustrating! There was a dog I really wanted, so I submitted my application, paid my fee, filled out the meet and greet form - exactly how the instructions online said I should do things. I later got an email that said I didn’t submit an application, so my meet and greet form was void. I sent them back my email confirmation/receipt from my application and they pretty much told me I had to deal with it with the third party that took the fee payment. Zero apology or offer to look into it, or offer to hold on to the meet and greet form for the dog I wanted even though I sent proof I did apply. This is so frustrating because they go first come first served. So by the time the third party company found and forwarded my app and I filled out the meet and greet paperwork for a second time and they connected me with the foster mom (who was lovely and very helpful), it was apparently too late to adopt the dog at literally any other time besides the adoption event scheduled for the only single day I wasn’t able to go up. Even though I did everything I was supposed to. If they had bothered helping when I submitted my application in the first place, it wouldn’t have been too late to set up an alternate adoption meeting. Someone else got the puppy I applied (twice) for that I was ready to get days earlier (I could have gone to pick her up any date prior to the action event). I feel like I just got scammed out of an application fee. Also, the dogs profile said she would be at an adoption event on 7/11. I asked about her after this date since the profile was still up and they told me it was an error, but it was as never corrected to the first date.
